HILA Education: Purpose, vision and philosophy


This course introduces the purpose and philosophy of the HILA education model. As we explore the model, we will position HILA within the broader picture of education in China and discuss the similarities and differences with HIS.

About This Course

In this course, the philosophy that underpins the education model is introduced, including the definition of bilingualism. You’ll learn about the curriculum as content and practice, with a brief summary of supporting pedagogical approaches. This will empower you to apply learning to your own practice. 

Completing this course will take you approximately 30 minutes. By the end of this course, you will:

  • gain insight into the HILA purpose and philosophy
  • relate compliance considerations to the HILA Education Model
  • explore language acquisition
  • engage with curriculum models.

Dr. Ahmed Hussain

Dr Ahmed Hussain is the Chief Education Officer with AISL. This position involves leading on educational strategy and operations across the Harrow group of schools in Asia. He is also an Associate Professor in the school of education Durham University, a member of the editorial board with Research Journal: International Education Theory and Practice, a member of the expert panel for Pudong Education Bureau, Shanghai and a Fellow of the Charter College for Teaching, UK.
