This episode takes the form of a panel discussion with two current students from the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford respectively. The video discusses what Oxbridge is, and what it is like studying at Oxbridge. We will get insights into different subject areas, from sciences to humanities, and crucially hear how students can start planning and preparing for a successful application to these prestigious universities. In the episode, Mike Strickland is joined by two experts: Thomas Angell, a current undergraduate at the University of Oxford, where he studies Medicine, and Daniel Possener, a current undergraduate at the University of Cambridge, where he studies Theology, Religion and the Philosophy of Religion. These two individuals know what it takes to succeed at school, and how to successfully gain a place at some of the world’s best universities.

Mike Strickland

Mike has a vast amount of experience in both British and international education, having worked across several continents, familiarising himself with multiple curricula and a variety of educational organisations. 

Central to his impressive portfolio is an eight-year tenure at Harrow International School Hong Kong, during which his role as a House Master has endowed him with specialised knowledge in boarding education, skillfully integrating pastoral care, academic guidance, and leadership training. This role has honed his ability to create nurturing environments that foster both personal growth and academic excellence. Mike's expertise extends to academic leadership, having served as the Head of Department at a leading UK school, where he demonstrated a profound understanding of the academic rigours and expectations of top academic institutions.  

Mike is Co-founder and Head of Education at Avernus Education, where he is instrumental in overseeing pupil pathways, ensuring students are well-prepared and positioned to achieve their educational ambitions. Mike also heads up Avernus' offering of residential camps and programmes. Mike contributes to a range of publications and learning platforms helping parents to understand the complex university application process, as well as advising them on the best of British education.
